I recently found a health food store that carries quite a few vegan specialty items, many of which I have been eager to try.
First on my list of items to taste test was Miyoko’s Vegan Mozz.
Oh. My. Goodness.
I love everything about this cheese.
The flavor is incredible. It definitely reminds me of mozzarella, though it has it’s own uniqueness.
The texture is ultra creamy. It’s spreadable and soft almost like a cream cheese. Don’t expect the texture of a block of traditional dairy mozzarella.
It became melty and gooey when I baked it on my buffalo tofu pizza and even browned up a bit under the broiler.
I used the entire wheel on this pizza (minus the few bites Kyle and I nibbled on before assembly) and I have to be honest, I wish I didn’t. The cheese was VERY heavy and oily and it did not sit well in my belly. I think if I had used just half the wheel and spread it out a bit thinner, it would have been perfect.
I would LOVE to serve this Mozz on a vegan cheese board or even on bruschetta. That would be delicious.
The two complaints I have about this cheese are that it is very expensive ($10.49 for 8 oz) and it is very rich and heavy. This is definitely a decadent treat and should be treated as such.
Overall, I’d give this cheese a 9/10. Miyoko’s Vegan Mozz definitely lives up to the hype and I will certainly be purchasing it again. I would recommend it to anyone, vegan or omnivore as a delicious substitute for dairy mozzarella cheese.
